Guthrie’s accomplishments after graduation have placed him in the top echelon of NCAA Division III track and field coaches. He has coached 297 All-Americans and 461 national qualifiers in indoor and outdoor track at UW-La Crosse since 1988. His teams have won seven indoor and five outdoor national titles and 23 combined Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns. He has been named conference Coach of the Year seven times and national Coach of the Year four times. Guthrie was a conference men’s shot put champion and an All-American in the event as a senior at Wartburg.
