Dr. Bobby Campbell ’52 (deceased)
Special Education Principal
Downey, Calif.

Campbell was both a coach and athlete at his alma mater. He was responsible for starting cross country as an intercollegiate sport at Wartburg and served as the head coach in that sport. He also was head track coach and assisted in basketball. He was a letterwinner in football, basketball, and track. An injury cut short his football career, but he lettered three times in basketball. He was a first team selection as a guard on the All-Iowa Conference Northern Division Team in 1952, the year the Knights won their first IIAC basketball title. He also lettered four years in track, winning the IIAC high jump in 1949 and the IIAC pole vault in 1952. After leaving Wartburg, he served as head basketball coach at Winona State in Minnesota and California Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, Calif., before beginning an outstanding career in special education.
