What is an Information Consultation?

An Information Consultation is an opportunity to discuss your paper or project assignment with a librarian in a setting less hurried than the Service Desk and more personalized than the librarian's presentation in your class.

How do I know if I need an Information Consultation?

Perhaps this is the first research paper you've had to do at Wartburg, and you're nervous about it. You might not know where to begin or how to proceed. Maybe you feel overwhelmed at the prospect of tackling the college library to find information for your paper. Many students suffer what is known as "library anxiety." An Information Consultation can help you overcome it.

What does an Information Consultation include?

Your consultant will help you work out a search strategy (a step-by-step procedure for finding information). Then he/she will introduce you to some sources that will give you an overview of your topic and lead you to books, journal articles, and appropriate web resources. You will be assisted in learning how to use these sources, how to find out which materials Wartburg owns, or what to do if we don't own them. The librarian may show you some strategies for evaluating the information you find.

How do I get an appointment?

What kind(s) of information have you found so far? What sources have you located?

Please bring with you a copy of the assignment, if possible, or tell us what particular requirements or limitations the professor has set (number of sources, use of the web, scholarly needs, etc.).
