Unique Curriculum
Unlike university curricula, Wartburg’s
Engineering Science program emphasizes breadth of background over
narrow specialization. Engineering Science at Wartburg is designed
to provide you with a unique combination of:
• technical expertise,
• mathematical and scientific skills, and
• a true liberal arts perspective.
Employers today are seeking engineers who are more
than just technically competent. They are looking for graduates
who can write and speak effectively, who are team players, and who
can see the “big picture.” These are the kinds of engineers
that Wartburg graduates.

Study Options
There are two ways you can take advantage
of what Wartburg has to offer future engineers. Most students will
choose to major in Engineering Science. This option is good for
those who plan on graduate study, as well as those interested in
employment that does not require immediate licensing. Others may
choose the Dual Degree option, especially if immediate licensing
is important.
Dual Degree
Wartburg offers a major in Engineering
Science for those students interested in graduate study, non-specialized
engineering positions, or technically-oriented non-engineering positions.
(See the Engineering Science major in the Chemistry and
Engineering
Science Department PDF.)
In this option, the student attends
Wartburg for three years and then transfers to an engineering program
accredited by ABET. In order to be eligible for the Dual Degree
option, the student must: complete 27 course credits at Wartburg,
fulfill all Wartburg Plan requirements, and complete a major (other
than Engineering Science). If all these conditions are met, upon
receiving their B.S. in engineering from their transfer institution,
the student will be eligible to receive their B.A. from Wartburg.
This option is most advantageous for students that wish to be eligible
for licensing upon graduation.
