About
the Department
The department offers
seven majors.
By majoring
in English, you’ll engage in creative responses to
human
experience by exploring ideas, values, and artistic achievements
in written, spoken, and visual media.You’ll learn how to think
critically, analyze all forms of communication, and solve problems
through research.
A major in writing
will acquaint you with literary studies.You can express yourself
through creative writing courses and workshops.You’ll also
receive a background in the philosophy of literature, mass media
reporting, and technical writing.
If you major
in French, German, or Spanish, you’ll become an effective
communicator, both in English and in the target language. In-depth
study of another culture and living abroad for an extended period
of time will give you insight into how other cultures view the world,
as well as a better understanding of American culture.
Your language proficiency
will be complimented by an interdisciplinary outlook if you major
in French studies, German studies, or Spanish studies.You’ll
gain this perspective through courses in history, political science,
economics, and business administration.
At Wartburg College,
you’ll get practical experience as part of your English and
modern languages curriculum.
