Dance Marathon - Morale Captains

MORALE CAPTAINS
Morale Captains are just what the name says: the confidence and enthusiasm of the group.  They are the energy of the event. Morale Captains have a large role in making sure that people have positive attitudes and are staying motivated to push through to the end of the night.  They dress up each hour according to a particular theme and lead the Morale Dance on stage while all dancers participate.

Why DM: When I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and I stayed in the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and I had an incredible experience there. Two years later, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Myclonic Epilepsy, also at the University. They have been so good to me and treated me so well. I still return there for appointments every 3 months.  Although, I am not suffering from cancer, or something that most of these kids who dance at Dance Marathon are going through. I have two diseases that will never go away. It’s a daily battle and that is something that I have in common with these children. I have an understanding for what they have to deal with, and want them to know they are not alone. I know what it’s like to be afraid, to be sitting in that hospital bed and just want to go home and be OK. But I also know what it’s like to be comforted by those incredible doctors at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and know that I am not alone – that I have support of not just my family at home, but my hospital family as well.  Also, hearing a child’s laughter is just the sweetest thing and knowing that you are the reason for their laughter is just the best feeling in the world! :)
