Service-Learning Grants
Request for Proposals

Faculty teaching service-learning courses (including civic engagement, community-based research, etc.) may apply for mini-grants to pay expenses related to the service component(s) of the course (travel, supplies, lodging, student food, etc.). Grants of $500 to $1500 are available.

These funds are provided to support experiential learning. Service activities that do not foster critical thinking as a primary goal are NOT eligible for funding. There is no application form, but a written proposal (no more than 3 pages) is required.

For further information, contact Dr. Dan Kittle.

The proposal should include:
a. A description of the course and its use of service-learning, civic engagement or community research.
b. A description of the activities and assignments that students will complete.
c. A copy of the course syllabus.
d. A budget for the course indicating the expenses of the service-learning component. For May term courses with service-learning as a primary component, this may be a percentage of the total course budget.
