“Educating students of modest means, students from middle class families, and first-generation students has always been a high priority for Wartburg. In this time of financial stress and uncertainty, many families are experiencing greater challenges than ever before in sending their children to college. We want—we need—to continue opening our doors to students from all walks of life. Through Orange Opportunity, all Wartburgers can join in challenging and nurturing students for lives of leadership, service, faith, and learning.”

Dr. Darrel D. Colson
President, Wartburg College

“All of the distinctive things that Wartburg offers won’t mean anything if students can’t afford it. It’s critical that we ensure this unique educational experience centered on leadership and service, faith and learning, remain affordable for future generations.”
– Dr. Herman Diers ’49, professor emeritus of religion,
at a 2008 Commission on Mission summit meeting in Seattle, Wash.
Orange Opportunity encompasses endowed, annually funded and Great Expectations Scholarships. While providing opportunity for students, it also offers rewarding benefits for donors:
  • Investing in a young person’s future
  • Contributing to society’s future
  • Sustaining Wartburg’s future
  • Honoring family members or persons who have played an influential role in the life of the donor
How to give
Annually Funded Scholarships can be made with a minimum yearly gift of $1,000 in one payment or in several payments over the year. Endowed and Great Expectations Scholarships can be established with outright or deferred gifts.

Payments can be made in installments over a period of years. All scholarships can be made in honor of a loved one or a person of significance in the donor’s life. A number of scholarships have been established in honor or memory of Wartburg faculty and staff members. Donors can consider expanding these scholarships with their gifts.

Donors are invited to meet their scholarship recipients at an annual scholarship luncheon hosted by the college. For those who want to participate in Orange Opportunity and not endow a scholarship or annually fund a scholarship, gifts of any size may be designated to the “Orange Opportunity Fund”—a general scholarship fund for students.
Gifts may be made online or mailed to:
