COMMISSION WARTBURG > ORIGINAL REPORT > BOARD CHAIRMAN

Board of Regents Chair Message

Fred W. Hagemann, Chairman, Board of RegentsWartburg College has been strengthened throughout its history by a rich tradition of people and events that have molded it into the institution it is today. During the past year, the work of Commission Wartburg reaffirmed those traditions, while creating a blueprint for the future advancement of the college.

The Board of Regents established Commission Wartburg in the spring of 1999 to engage alumni and friends in a long-range planning effort to examine Wartburg’s strengths, needs, and aspirations. The resulting recommendations listed in this summary report represent both significant achievement and great opportunity for Wartburg College.

Commission Wartburg would not have been possible without the generous support of the Franklin I. and Irene List Saemann Foundation. We deeply appreciate the Saemann Foundation gift that enabled the college to create and administer the commission, as well as the foundation’s many other charitable donations that have made such a significant impact on the college and our students.

On behalf of the members of the Board of Regents, I express our heartfelt appreciation to Ross Christensen, national commission chair, the leadership of the eight task forces, and each commission member for your thorough analysis of the college, your thoughtful ideas, and your outstanding dedication to Wartburg.

We now have the opportunity to utilize the commission’s collective wisdom and vision to take Wartburg to new heights. I am pleased to accept this Summary Report of Commission Wartburg and look forward to leading the board in discussions to prioritize our goals for a very bright future.

Fred W. Hagemann ’67
