Sexual Misconduct and Assault

Sexual Misconduct and Assault Resource Team (SMART)
SMART is a campus organization aimed at creating greater awareness about relationship-related topics. The goal of the SMART organization is to educate and assist members of the Wartburg community in dealing with situations related to sexual misconduct. SMART consists of two separate branches. SMART consists of faculty, staff and student advocates who are specially trained to provide education and support in sexual assault/harassment incidents on campus. SMART is also a student-run organization which provides educational programming about issues related to dating violence, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and making responsible sexual choices.

How do I become a member?
New inductees to the SMART student branch are chosen once a year. To become a member, you must fill out an application and go through an interview. To become an advocate you must go through 20 hours of training, after acceptance onto the team. Membership applications are accepted in the Fall Term of each school year. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please direct those to Stephanie Newsom, Director of Counseling, at Ext. 8596.

What does SMART do?

  • Organizes awareness activities
