Position: Professor of Education
Why do you teach at Wartburg?
As an alumna, a parent of an alumnus, and a professor, I understand
the emphasis placed on the growth of the individual. As a result,
I want to continue my own academic growth and professional development
at Wartburg!
Memorable Moments
I revel in those golden moments when our preservice students grapple
with a concept and make it their own, transforming it with meaning
for their future classrooms. I recall one such moment in a May
Term class when students candidly shared their hopes and fears
for their future classrooms. I know not all of my students will
pursue or remain in a teaching career, but I am certain that all
of them will remain teachers of the heart in various settings.
Because of their experiences at Wartburg, they will also be prepared
for the harsh realities of the classroom, for a teacher cannot
live only in the golden moments of discovery, the rush of inquiry,
or the pause of reflection. In the education department, it is
our goal to prepare students for a lifetime of classrooms, and
it is our hope that those classrooms will remain connected through
our experiences at Wartburg College.

What does "be
orange" mean to you?
"Being orange" is a state of mind, and I'm always mindful
of our college mission to challenge and nurture students for lives
of leadership and service as a spirited expression of their faith
and learning.
What is your favorite aspect
of Wartburg?
As a professor of education, I am intellectually stimulated by
the challenge of preparing future teachers for the 21st Century.
