CCE Staff

Statement of Purpose
The CCE supports & encourages students, staff and faculty in the development, coordination & evaluation of external relationships that are effective for student learning & vocational development, advance public scholarship & benefit community partners.

Lake Lambert Lake Lambert, Ph.D., director of the Center for Community Engagement, associate professor in religion and Board of Regents Chair in Ethics holds a B.A. in economics and history, and a Master of Theological Studies from Emory University (’89 and ‘91) and a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary (’97). Since January 2003, he has directed Wartburg’s Discovering and Claiming Our Callings initiative, a $2.5 million program funded by the Lilly Endowment. Lake is a diaconal minister in the ELCA and has served the church in many ways at the congregational, synodical and national levels. His family includes his wife Kelly, and their son and daughter, Bailey and Zack.

Mackenzie Grondahl, interim community partnerships coordinator, holds a B.A. in history and theatre from Northwestern College (’00), M.A. in religion from Wartburg Theological Seminary (’05). She served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA with Iowa Campus Compact from 2006-2007 and is a diaconal ministry candidate in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Mackenzie works to aid faculty in developing service-learning courses and to strengthen community partnerships with the college.

Daniel Kittle Daniel Kittle, Ph.D. (temporarily on leave), community partnerships coordinator, holds a B.S. in public relations and political science from Heidelberg College (’98), M.A. in political science, and a Ph.D. in higher, adult, learning and education from Michigan State University (’00 and ’05). He is currently on a one year leave of absence from Wartburg while he and his wife, Ashley, are serving with the Blue Mountain Project in Hagley Gap, Jamaica.

Jo Dorrance

Jo Dorrance, internship coordinator, holds a B.A. in mass communication and english from Iowa State University (’74). Jo serves as a resource to students in securing internships and is the campus liaison for Wartburg West in Denver, CO. and The Washington Center in the nation’s capitol. She works with businesses and non-profits in the Cedar Valley and beyond to develop formal internship partnerships with the college. As an active member of both the Wartburg and Waverly communities Jo currently serves on the “First in the Nation” committee as well as the boards of W-SR’s Fill-A-Need Campaign, the W-SR High School Band Boosters, and the American Association of University Women and is a member of Rotary International. Her family includes one son, Sam, who attends Waverly-Shell Rock High School.

Renee Sedlacek

Renee Sedlacek, community service associate, holds a B.A. in sociology from Central College (’05). Prior to joining the Wartburg community, she served one year as an Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA in the Office of Community-Based Learning at Central College. She works to foster relationships and developing partnerships with local non-profits and coordinates service trips, OrangeBand,and the Volunteer Action Center.

Bill Soesbe

Bill Soesbe, school partnerships coordinator and director of the Office of Student Field Experiences holds an A.A. from Ellsworth Community College (’97), a B.A. in science education, and a M.A.E in middle school education from the University of Northern Iowa (’99 and ’01). He places student teachers and field experience students for the Education Department, coordinates the Community Builders program for the Leadership Education Institute and fosters relationships and developing partnerships with local school districts. Bill has offices in both the CCE and Education Department. His family includes his wife Heather, and their son and daughter, Will and Kennedy.

Mary Beth Koberna

Mary Beth Koberna, office coordinator
Mary Beth Koberna, office coordinator in the Center for Community Engagement.  After earning an associate's degree at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, she attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette. She worked at Albion College in Michigan for five years as faculty secretary in the foreign languages and philosophy departments, and earlier in the Alumni and Parent Relations Office. Prior to coming to Wartburg she worked at Leslie Collins & Foy law firm. Mary Beth and her husband, Tim, head athletic trainer for the Knights, have two children, Lindsay, 8, and Cameron, 4.
