Statement of Purpose
The CCE supports & encourages students, staff and faculty in the development, coordination & evaluation of external relationships that are effective for student learning & vocational development, advance public scholarship & benefit community partners.
Daniel Kittle
Daniel Kittle, Ph.D., director of the Center for Community Engagement, holds a B.S. in public relations and political science from Heidelberg College (’98), M.A. in political science, and a Ph.D. in higher, adult, learning and education from Michigan State University (’00 and ’05).

Jo Dorrance
Jo Dorrance, internship coordinator, holds a B.A. in mass communication and English from Iowa State University. Jo serves as a resource to students in securing internships and is the campus liaison for Wartburg West in Denver, CO, The Washington Center in the nation’s capitol and the pre-professional medical program with the Waverly Health Center. As an active member of both the Wartburg and Waverly communities, Jo currently serves on the board of the W-SR High School Band Boosters, the W-SR Schools Foundation, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and is a member of Rotary International. Jo has one son, Sam, who attends Waverly-Shell Rock High School.

Renee Sedlacek
Renee Sedlacek, service-learning coordinator, holds a B.A. in sociology from Central College (’05). Prior to joining the Wartburg community, she served one year as an Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA in the Office of Community-Based Learning at Central College. She works to foster relationships and developing partnerships with local non-profits and coordinates service trips, OrangeBand,and the Volunteer Action Center.

Bill Soesbe
Bill Soesbe, school partnerships coordinator and director of the Office of Student Field Experiences holds an A.A. degree from Ellsworth Community College (’97), a B.A. degree in science education, and a M.A.E degree in middle school education from the University of Northern Iowa (’99 and ’01). Prior to working at Wartburg, he taught science for six years at the Waverly-Shell Rock Junior High. He continues to serve as a high school wrestling coach for the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks. Bill’s work is coordinated from the Center for Community Engagement, but he also maintains an office in the Education Department. He places student teachers and field experience students for the Education Department, coordinates the Community Builders program for the Leadership Education Institute, facilitates the campuses AmeriCorps program, and spends time in the Center for Community Engagement fostering relationships and developing partnerships with local school districts. His family includes his wife Heather, their son, Will, and two daughters, Kennedy and Ava.

Mary Beth Koberna
Mary Beth Koberna, office coordinator
Mary Beth Koberna, office coordinator in the Center for Community Engagement.  After earning an A.A. degree at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, she attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette. She worked at Albion College in Michigan for five years as faculty secretary in the Foreign Languages and Philosophy departments, and earlier in the Alumni and Parent Relations Office. Prior to coming to Wartburg she worked at Leslie Collins & Foy law firm. MaryBeth and her husband, Tim, Head Athletic Trainer for the Knights, have two children, Lindsay, and Cameron.
