Dr. Pier is an assistant professor of communication arts and coordinates the communication studies major. She is also the director of the forensics team and women's studies program. She holds a B.A. degree
in communication from Moorhead State University and a M.A. degree
in communication from Southwest Missouri State University. She
completed her doctorate at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
She has taught various communication courses at the University
of Missouri-Columbia and Southwest Missouri State University.
In addition, she had an interest in student learning communities
and has served as an adviser and facilitator for several student
groups at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Pier is the secretary-elect
of the Political Division of the Central State Communication Association.
She is a member of the National Communication Association and
the International Communication Association. She has published
several articles and co-authored a text on the 1996 presidential
campaign.
