Pam Ohrt is an assistant professor in the Communication Arts Department and began teaching at Wartburg as an adjunct in 2004, joining the department full-time in 2005. She currently advises KWAR-FM, the student-run campus radio station, along with the Fortress, the Wartburg yearbook. Her teaching responsibilities include the introductory communication arts course, journalism and news reporting, radio production, and diversity and the media, which is the topic of her Inquiry Studies course.
Professor Ohrt has an extensive background in media, including 25 years in radio, where she was news director at KOEL AM and FM in Oelwein, and two years as editor of the Oelwein Daily Register, a six-day-a-week newspaper. She received her BS in journalism and Spanish from Iowa State University, and an MA in communication studies from the University of Northern Iowa. She has received awards from the Iowa Broadcasters Association in the “best newscast” category and from the Iowa Newspaper Foundation for news writing.
Ohrt is currently executive director of the Iowa College Media Advisers organization.
