COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

  1. To develop an understanding of accounting for transactions and financial reporting for governmental entities.

 

  1. To develop an understanding of accounting for transactions and financial reporting for nonprofit entities.

 

  1. To develop an appreciation for the environment in which governmental and nonprofit entities operate and the information needs of users of their financial statements.

 

 

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK

 

Essentials of Accounting for Governmental and Not-for-Profit Organizations, by Copley and Engstrom, 8th edition, McGraw-Hill/Irwin

 

 

ASSIGNMENTS

All assignments for the term are listed on the assignment sheet which is attached. 

All assignments should be completed, to the best of your ability, prior to coming to class.

 

 

ATTENDANCE AND CLASS PARTICIPATION

Class preparation, attendance, and participation are expected every day.

 

 

EXAMS

There will be three exams given during the term.  NO makeup examinations will be permitted unless the instructor is notified prior to the time of the examination and the instructor is satisfied that the excuse is legitimate and acceptable.

 

 

QUIZZES

Quizzes may be given occasionally on an unannounced basis.

Letter grades will be assigned at the end of the term in accordance with policies stated in the Wartburg College Academic Catalog.

 

 

PRACTICE CASE

A practice case will be distributed in class.  Due dates for sections of the case will be announced in class.
