Course objectives:
Develop an understanding of measuring and reporting assets and liabilities such as receivables, inventories, and bonds payable.
Develop an understanding of measuring and reporting revenues, expenses, and results of operations.
Increase proficiency in time value of money applications.
Develop an understanding of basic financial statement presentation of financial position, including stockholders’ equity.
Increase understanding of the regulatory environment in which financial accounting rules are established.
Attendance: All students are expected to attend class on a regular basis. Absences for legitimate reasons such as illness and approved college activities are permitted, but it is strongly suggested that the student realize the importance of attending all class sessions.
Assignments: Assignments consist of exercises and problems at the end of each chapter. Assignments are to be completed promptly on a daily basis in order to gain the greatest learning from solving the problems. These will not be graded.
Nine individual and group assignments will be collected and graded.
Examinations and Grading: No quizzes are planned. A series of unannounced quizzes will be instituted by your instructor only if daily preparation for class participation deteriorates during the course of the term. Quizzes, if instituted, will constitute 10% of the total grade.
There will be three examinations during the term and a comprehensive final examination at the end of the term.
