Medical school admissions committees look carefully for signs that applicants exhibit a caring, empathetic attitude. One of the best means of evidence for this is that you have taken the time to give back to your community. This doesn't mean a long list of short little experiences like "served as secretary to the hob-nob club", but that you have dedicated your time to a particular cause or organization that in some way benefits individuals who are less fortunate that yourself or for the greater good of society. There are many, many ways to do this.
Among the type of volunteer activities that many Wartburg College pre-med students have engaged in are:
- Campus Faith Expression Groups - Including Habitat for Humanity
- Community Engagement - Including Service Trips
- Student Organizations
Bottom line: Take the time and GET INVOLVED!
