During May Term we will offer the Neotropical Experience in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. In Guyana we will travel to rain forest sites by truck, boat and airplane, experience the local Amerindian culture, participate in research projects in an international research program and visit Kaieteur Falls (shown to the right). In Trinidad we will experience a vibrant eastern Caribbean culture through its arts and environment. Students will receive two interconnected course credits (Natural Science with Lab and Social Science) and the GM sequence fulfills diversity a cross the curriculum.

Winter Term - ON CAMPUS
BI 206 - Ecology of Guyana and Trinidad I (0.5 credit)
GM 206 - Cultures of Guyana and Trinidad I (0.5 credit)
May Term - OFF CAMPUS
BI 216 - Ecology of Guyana II (0.5 credit)
GM 216 - Cultures of Guyana and Trinidad II (0.5 credit)

Airline Information - You will allowed one carry-on piece of luggage small enough to put under seat or in overhead compartment (45 in X 45 in, less than 70 lbs). Sounds like a bookbag/backpack to me. Remember airline rules on sharp objects, etc. We will discuss!! You will be allowed 2 pieces of checked bags: (1) your duffel bag/suitcase and (2) cooler or box with donated supplies which you will pick up at Wartburg.

Cost - The trip cost, ~ $4,000, will include all airfare, ground transportation, housing and meals from Wartburg College. This includes a 10% contingency fund for emergencies which can be reimbursed if we have no emergencies. Students on the Wartburg meal plans can receive a rebate (see the Controller's office). Payment schedule will be announced at a later time. You will need ~ $100-150 prior to the trip for personal expenses including passport, immunization, film etc… It is difficult for me to estimate personal costs on the trip but I would say $100 would be a rough guess.

Immunizations
A series of immunizations and antimalarial meds are highly suggested for this adventure
.
I will let you know where to get info you need to make decisions at a later date. Generally, at the minimum, you should have all normal childhood immunizations plus yellow fever, and typhoid. Malaria meds are highly suggested for this area of the world.
