Nomination Form (PDF)

How to Nominate
Congratulations and thank you for considering this important step in recognizing a worthwhile individual with this outstanding award!

The first step is to see if the individual you are considering has been honored in the past. View the complete list of past recipients at www.wartburg.edu/alumni/alumnicitation.html.

You will need to submit a one-page summary of your candidate’s vita/resume. We encourage you to contact a spouse, their employer, their school or college, alumni records, or local newspaper archives. Google (www.google.com) is also a tremendous source to acquire additional information. It is the desire of the Wartburg Alumni Association that the nomination be made confidentially and without the knowledge of the nominee.

You will also find you should submit two letters of support for the nomination. Again, the same sources you would use for finding the resume might be helpful in picking the letter writers. Professional colleagues and other past Alumni Citation Award recipients also make excellent supporters.  Be sure to collect mailing addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses of those you select to write letters of recommendation. It is typically a good idea to ask up to five people to write a letter, simply because not everyone will follow through with the request and not everyone writes an excellent letter. This gives you some choice in the letters you wish to submit. Ask them to address their letter to the committee (Alumni Citation Awards Committee, Wartburg College Alumni Office, 100 Wartburg Blvd., Waverly, IA 50677) but have them mail the letter back to you, so you can keep track of what’s coming in and select the two best letters to submit as part of your nomination.

Please keep the nomination form, your letter, the one-page resume/vita summary and your two letters in a loose format, not in a binder. Then please forward these to the Alumni Association by February 1.

The Alumni Association will review the nominations during February and March and notify you if your candidate will be honored. It is not uncommon for nominees not to be chosen in the first year of their nomination.  The Awards Committee holds nominations for three years. You may provide updates and additions to your candidate’s nomination materials at any time during those three years.

Eligibility
Wartburg alumni who are graduates or former students (completed a minimum of one year) are eligible to receive the award. THE AWARDEE MUST ATTEND THE AWARDS CEREMONY AND RELATED ACTIVITIES.

The following categories of people are not eligible to receive the Alumni Citation Award:

• Members of the current Wartburg College Board of Regents
• Members of the current Alumni Association Board
• Members of the current Alumni Citation Awards Committee

A. Be sure to keep a copy of all materials submitted for your future reference. Submit only the original packet material. There is no need to provide multiple copies of the nomination packet.

A COMPLETE nomination packet will include:

  1. The nomination form. (see downloadable PDF link above)
  2. A letter from the nominator.
  3. A one-page summary of the nominee’s resume/vita including outstanding contributions and facts that you want the Selection Committee to be aware of.
  4. A minimum of two additional letters supporting the nomination.
  5. Additional sources of information (i.e. copies of articles, online articles, etc.) are sometimes helpful to the Awards Committee.

B. It is the intent of the Alumni Association that the nomination is made WITHOUT the knowledge of the nominee. In order to be respectful of the nominee, we have found that keeping the nomination private is best for the process and the nominees.

C. Support Letters must address the specific award for which the candidate is nominated. Please be sure all support letter writers include their postal and email addresses on their letters.

D. When the recipients have been selected, they will be notified by phone. Nominators will be informed after all recipients have been notified.

E. If your candidate is selected for the award, he/she may invite those who provided a letter of recommendation to the award ceremony.

F. Nominations submitted, but not selected, are kept on file to be considered for a total of three years.
