How to Nominate
Congratulations
on considering this important step in recognizing a worthwhile
individual with this outstanding award!
The first step to take is to see
if the individual you are considering has been honored in the
past. View the list to the left for the complete list.
You will notice that you need
to submit a one page summary of the individuals vita/resume for
your candidate. We encourage you to contact a spouse, their school
or college, alumni records, local newspaper archives and Google
(www.google.com) are also tremendous sources to acquire additional
information. It is the desire of the Wartburg Alumni Association that the nomination
be made confidentially and without the knowledge of the nominee.
You will also find that you should submit two
letters of support for the nomination. Again, the same sources
you would use for finding the resume might be helpful in picking
the letter writers. Professional colleagues, the department chair,
other past Alumni Citation Award recipients, and students of faculty
nominees make excellent supporters. Be sure to collect mailing
addresses, phone numbers, fax number and e-mail addresses of these
folks. You usually approach 6-7 people, simply because not everyone
will follow thru with the request and not everyone writes an excellent
letter. This gives you some choice in the letters you wish to
submit. In your letter to them, ask them to address the letter
to the committee (Alumni Citation Awards Committee, Alumni Office,
Luther Hall, Waverly, IA 50677) but mail the letter to you –
so you can keep track of what’s coming in.
Keep the nomination form, your letter, the resume,
the one-page summary and your two letters in a loose format –
do not put them in a binder. Get these to the Association by December 1,
and relax! You’ve done good work!
The Association will notify you
if your candidate will be honored. If your candidate is not
immediately honored, do not give up! The Awards Committee holds
nominations for three years – which gives you the opportunity
to update your candidate’s resume and collect additional
support letters.
