English Language Requirements

Wartburg College offers two levels of admission for non-U.S. citizen applicants.  Students may choose from the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, or EIKEN exams.  Only one test score is required.

Regular admission students must achieve the following minimum test scores:

TOEFL: Paper – 550
Computer – 213               
Internet – 80
IELTS: 6.0
EIKEN: Grade Pre-1st

Bridge Program students are formally admitted to the bachelor’s degree program but must take the Transitional American English Language and Culture (EI 195) course as part of their first semester course load for academic credit. Minimum test result requirements are as follows:

TOEFL:  Paper - 480
Computer – 157
Internet – 55
IELTS:   5.0
EIKEN: Grade 2A

Students who have studied at a secondary or post-secondary institution where English is the language of instruction should consider taking the SAT or ACT as an alternative to one of the above exams.

Students may be required to take a test of English language capability after their arrival on campus to ensure proper class registration.
