My favorite thing about Wartburg:   Wartburg gives each student a host family, which is very thoughtful and helpful.  Even though Wartburg is a small school, it actually benefits students in meeting individual needs, and it creates a nice environment to study.

Costa RicaChristian Riquelme
Country: Costa Rica
E-mail Me: Christian.riquelme@wartburg.edu
Major: Communication Arts: Theatre and Public Relations
Campus Activities: Currently, I am the president of The Climbing Club, the vice-president of Mosaico Latino Club and I am actively involved with the International Club on campus. I am part of the theater Players group. I also hold a radio show where we talked about Latin American culture and it music. I like to keep myself busy doing things I like.
Why I chose Wartburg: Not knowing anything about the American culture, I was very excited about the idea of studying abroad and what it could mean to my life. Wartburg had my major of interest, pictures of campus were very attractive, and scholarships. There are many other aspects that came into consideration when I chose where to attend, some of them personal. But at the same time when you don´t know much about where you are going, decisions become more difficult.
My favorite thing about Wartburg: I really benefit from the many different resources Wartburg has to offer its students. With Wartburg being a small school, you really appreciate the opportunity in getting to know your professors, faculty, and students.

E-mail Me: maneesha.gammanaliya@wartburg.edu
Major: International Relations and Psychology
Campus Activities: I am involved in International Club and Asian Student Association as an active member. We organize numerous occasions that focus on bringing diversity and wider perspective of the world to the Wartburg community.
What it’s like to live in Waverly: Waverly is a quiet and peaceful town in Iowa. The college is beautiful and being a residential and college town, it is also comfortable for students providing various options to shop, chill and eat. People in Waverly are mostly Iowan farmers that have been living here for centuries. They are rich in Iowan culture and very welcoming.
Future Plans: I am planning to go to a rural part of Nepal to help in a school that teaches children for free. It is an initiative by Davies students in order to provide free quality education in rural parts of Nepal. It is community based where the people of the village and volunteers working in the school help each other in any way possible. The school aims to own agricultural and farming land in order for the school to be self-sustainable. The school needs help from volunteers like me for ideas and labor. Moreover, I am looking forward for a good experience to live in a village life style in the beautiful mountainous country and observing their culture and minds.
Advice for future students: If you like simplicity, nature, peacefulness and if you want to find yourself, this is a place that you will definitely enjoy.

Country: Nigeria
E-mail Me: shalom.nwaokolo@wartburg.edu
Major: Economics
Campus Activities: On campus, I have been actively involved with and been a part of the international club, the students for peace and justice, and the business club. Last summer, I volunteered off-campus with Self-Help International and the Waverly public library. I am also currently looking forward to volunteering with the Waverly economic development council.
What it’s like to live in Waverly: Living in Waverly so far has been awesome—Waverly is a safe environment with warm and friendly residents. There are stores located within walking, driving and biking distance. There are also a number of outdoor and indoor public facilities to meet the exercise and/or sporting needs of the public. When classes are in session, the campus is lively and vibrant with students, faculty and staff working towards achieving their individual goals and those of the college as well.
Future Plans: I plan to go to Graduate school for a masters’ in developmental economics right after finishing up with my optional practical training.
Advice for future students: Wartburg students, faculty, and staff are committed to a life of service to one another and to its community. The reward for this transcends networking opportunities and other forms of personal gain. If this fits the standard of what you desire in a college, don’t hesitate to be a part of this service-oriented community atmosphere!
