Wartburg joins Yellow Ribbon tuition program for veterans
July 10, 2009
WAVERLY, Iowa — Qualifying U.S. military veterans enrolling at Wartburg College can receive tuition assistance through a matching grant program between the college and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Wartburg has enrolled in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, which was approved by Congress after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and expanded in 2008 to include private colleges and universities. The new benefit will take effect Aug. 1. Under the program, Wartburg will pay up to 50 percent of tuition, which will be matched by the Department of Veteran Affairs. The GI Bill also provides veterans with a housing allowance (based on location) and an annual allowance of up to $1,000 for books and supplies. In addition, veterans also qualify for fixed-rate federal loans to cover other expenses.
