Wartburg College will celebrate the naming of the McCoy Living and Learning Center during Homecoming festivities this fall.

The center will encompass the renovated Clinton Hall, a residence hall for students built in 1957, and the addition to the building currently under construction, which includes a multipurpose classroom, a faculty apartment, a small movie theater and student lounges.

The Wartburg College Board of Regents approved naming the living-learning complex after Mike and Marge McCoy. The couple’s $2 million challenge grant, the largest donation to the project, was critical to its fundraising success.

“We’re so grateful to Mike and Marge for their leadership on this project and so many others across campus,” said President Darrel Colson. “The name of the McCoy Living and Learning Center honors their contribution and expresses our vision for Wartburg as a school where the residential experience is a key component of a student’s complete education.”

Mike McCoy, a former executive vice president and chief financial officer at Hormel Foods Corporation, is the chairman of the Board of Regents, served on the President’s Advisory Council and chaired the Commission on Mission, the college’s strategic planning initiative. The McCoys are co-chairs of the Transforming Tomorrow campaign and also have served on the Parents’ Advisory Committee.

“Marge and I really felt that because we were co-chairs on the campaign that we needed to step up and do a leadership gift on the Clinton Hall renovation,” said Mike McCoy. “The Board of Regents has been hearing for so long that we needed to do something to spruce up the residence hall.

“To try something new and actually have a faculty member and his or her family living in that area and interacting with the students is nothing but positive. Long term, it’s going to be looked upon as an opportunity for all of our students that will enhance a Wartburg education.”

The construction of the McCoy Living and Learning Center marks the first work done to Clinton Hall since the south wing was added in the late 1960s. Crews have been working since March to complete renovations to the hall, including new plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems. The project is on track for completion by the time students return for classes in the fall.

Additional donations will be accepted through the summer to defray the cost of furnishings. To learn more about the McCoy Living and Learning Center project or to make a gift, call 866-219-9115 or visit www.wartburg.edu/clinton.
