Mount Pleasant native Mallory Swigart will return to southeast Iowa Saturday, Jan. 23, to perform with the Wartburg College Castle Singers.

The concert, at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1897 140th St., begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Castle Singers, under the direction of Nicki Toliver, will perform an eclectic program ranging from Renaissance era choral works to contemporary pop music including “Shakespeare Songs, Book III” by Matthew Harris, “Cry Out and Shout” and “Be Not Afraid” by Knut Nystedt and the popular jazz standard “When I Fall in Love” arranged by Kirby Shaw.

The ensemble, which was recently featured on Iowa Public Television’s “Christmas with Wartburg” holiday special, will also give an encore performance of Peter Anglea’s evocative arrangement of “Silent Night.”

Swigart, a freshman majoring in music therapy, also accompanies the ensemble.

“I love the hour I get to spend in the choral hall with the Castle Singers every day,” she said. “When I was told we would be performing in Swedesburg, I got so happy because my house is only 10 minutes away. I’m excited to be able to perform with the Castle Singers in front of my family and friends in that area.”

Free-will donations will be accepted to support scholarships and future tours.
