Two Wartburg College employees recently received the third annual Exemplary Staff Award for their service to the college and its students.

The Personnel Advisory Committee, elected to represent administrative and support staff, selected Jan Hyde, dining services manager and student employment coordinator, and Mike Testroet, maintenance staff, out of 13 nominees. One administrative staff member and one non-administrative staff member are honored each year.

Hyde, who has worked for the college for 31 years, was nominated by Mary Goetzinger, a dining services checker, for being a “hands-on manager.”

“Jan is one of the hardest-working people I have ever met,” Goetzinger wrote. “There is no job that she asks you to do that she wouldn’t do herself. She juggles scheduling for more than 250 student-employees and does it with a positive and patient attitude.”

Cross country coach Steve Johnson nominated Testroet for doing “an outstanding job of keeping the (Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center) and all the athletic facilities in excellent condition.”

“Mike always has a great sense of humor. He has a way of making everyone smile and has fun each day and with each job that comes up. He puts real meaning into the word service in his work with each of the sports, students, coaches and W staff,” Johnson wrote.
