Wartburg College’s international students will share their heritage and talents during the annual Culture Week events, March 11-17.

This year’s celebration, “The World ‘Occupies’ Wartburg,” will feature information booths, cuisine and the talents of the “7.2 percent” — Wartburg’s 134 international students (its largest enrollment ever), representing 49 countries.

The International Club festivities begin with the Culture Fair at 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, March 11, with exhibits and food from the students’ homelands. The public is invited with a suggested donation of $3 at the door in Knights Ballroom of Saemann Student Center.

The celebration culminates with the Culture Week Performances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, in Neumann Auditorium, featuring 100 student performers in 19 separate music and dance acts. A $3 donation per person is suggested.

The events — which started as a gathering in the student cafeteria — now draw big crowds to the larger venues and have developed a reputation that precedes them among international students.

“The new students this year knew about Culture Week,” said Reon Sines-Sheaff, associate director for global admissions. “They’d seen it on Facebook and heard about it from their friends here. They’ve brought costumes. So every year it’s going to get bigger and bigger. We couldn’t even take in everyone who wants to do it.”
