The irresistible energy of the Waterloo-based Afro-Latino Project — songs, drums, dances and costumes — comes to Wartburg College Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The annual family concert of the Wartburg College Artist Series will feature the 19-member ensemble (eight musicians and 11 dancers) led by University of Northern Iowa alumnus Ed East, performing songs from Latin America with an African influence.

The 7:30 p.m. program in Neumann Auditorium will include Cuban rumbas, Colombian bullerengues, Puerto Rican bombas, Brazilian maculelés and capoeiras, Panamanian bailes de congos, Peruvian festejos, Uruguayan candombes and Venezuelan tambores.

Adult tickets are $15-25. Two youth tickets (12 and under) can be purchased for $2 with each adult ticket. Other K-12 tickets are $10. Wartburg students can obtain a free ticket with their college ID at the Saemann Student Center ticket office.

Tickets are available online at www.wartburg.edu/artist, by calling 319 352-8691 or at the Saemann Student Center ticket office, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday.

A preconcert meal is available from 5:15 to 7 p.m., in the Mensa student cafeteria. Adult tickets are $9; children 5-12, $4.50; children under 5, free. An $18.75 banquet meal will be available in the Heritage ballroom with tickets purchased in advance.
